Tropical Storm Ida Forms in the Caribbean, Heading to the Gulf

The update came late this afternoon from the National Hurricane Center:

Air Force Reserve hurricane hunter aircraft data indicate that the depression has strengthened to Tropical Storm Ida.

Forecasters say the system could be near major hurricane strength when it approaches the northern Gulf coast.

At this point, the cone stretches from the Houston area through coastal Mississippi.
